Parent Memo
From Ms. Lorie
St. Mary’s Grade School

Friday, December 2
Dear St. Mary’s Families:
This weekend, our SMS Choir will be singing at the Clarksburg Winterfest at 1:00 on the Court House Plaza. If you
are in town, please come and join us for some uplifting Christmas cheer.
Next week is a busy week!
Math Field Day winners will be participating in the county competition on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Good luck to Evan in 4 th grade, Maria in 5 th grade, Kaelynn and Kyanna in 6 th grade. Our prayers are with you!
Tuesday is the Feast of St. Nicholas. Our students will be treated to a special visit from St. Nicholas himself! We
will also be paring up with our Notre Dame friends and making ornaments for the Jesse Tree.
The Santa Shop opens on Wednesday and continues through Friday morning. This secret shopping event is made
possible by the HandS organization. Students may purchase items for friends and families.
Thursday will be mass for The Feast of the Immaculate Conception at 12:00pm. All students are to wear Formal
Uniforms.
There will be no mass on Friday therefore, regular uniforms are appropriate for Friday.
The St. Mary’s Grade School Christmas Program will be held on December 18 at 3:00 pm in the Immaculate
Conception Parish Church. All students will be participating. This event is open to all families and friends.
Students will need to be at the church at 2:00pm. If your child is unable to attend, please call 304-838-8032.

Notes of Interest:
Winter Uniform Reminders: Socks: no ankle height socks. Girls may wear a folded down Bobby Sock in white,
knee socks or tights in navy or white. Skirts/Jumpers are to be no more than 2 inches above the knee. On Mass Days
and Formal Uniform Days, students are to wear only school fleece jackets. Jackets worn throughout any day for
warmth must also be the school fleece or school sweat shirt and not other fleeces and sweat shirts.
HOPE Scholarship Recipients: HOPE Scholarship recipient families were sent a survey last week that is
mandatory to complete in order for the family to receive funding. The survey asks a series of questions that is
necessary for HOPE to determine the appropriate funding amount for each family for this year (22-23). The survey
came from wvhope@emaportal.org. The survey must be completed by December 2 nd . If you did not receive this
email, please notify WV HOPE. If you do not complete the survey, you will not receive the funding. Funds are
being released on January 15.

Science and Social Studies Fair: Sign-ups are open until December 9.

Shoe Drive KICKOFF: We have officially kicked off the St. Mary’s School Shoe Drive! We are laser focused on
collecting as many shoes as possible and we need EVERYONE’S help. Starting this week and concluding at the end
of Catholic Schools Week (last week of January), we want to make it our mission to gather as many new, used and
gently worn shoes as possible. Please do your part and look through the shoes in your home. We will accept all
shoes – men’s, women’s, kid’s – as long as they have no holes or tears. Send them in with your student to be placed
in the black tubs in the front hallway of the school. Once you look through your shoes, ask your neighbors, friends,
co-workers, family members, hairdresser…everyone you know to do the same.
Now for the fun part!  Our first milestone goal is to collect 250 pairs of shoes. AND if we hit our goal – Ms. Lori
will wear her clothes backwards for a full day at school. Let’s provide resources to people that need help, all while
having a good laugh at Ms. Lori!
Santa Shop: HandS is in need of volunteers to work the Santa Shop next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
