Happy Summer!

My name is Ms. Loria Cavallo and I am the Assistant Principal of Notre Dame High School and St. Mary’s Grade School.  Mrs. Kelly Light is the Principal of Notre Dame and St. Mary’s.  Mrs.  Light manages our schools as a whole and maintains the daily operations of Notre Dame.  I assist Mrs. Light in operations for the two schools and oversee the daily operations of St. Mary’s.  The students call me Ms. Lorie!  Together, we strive to create an experience for your family that supports our motto, Two Schools, One Family!

Welcome to St. Mary’s 1st Parent Memo of the 22-23 school year.  During the regular school year, you will receive a weekly memo on Friday’s by email to keep you informed and up to date on happenings around the school. For those anticipating the Hope Scholarship, we, too, are experiencing the same confusion and grief.   If I have direction from the diocese, I will quickly get that information out to you.  As for now, please watch the Hope Scholarship website for updates.  We will all pray for a favorable outcome. In light of this, please know that the TAPS (Tuition Assistance Program) is open for applications until August 31 at  Awards will be announced on September 8.

At this time, the school is being spruced up by our expert custodian, Nate Earl.  The school is getting a thorough cleaning and repairs are being addressed.  Nate and his team do an excellent job of keeping our building shining.  We appreciate them! Our first day of school for students in grades 1-12 is August 22!! Kindergarten and Preschools will begin on August 25!!

Below are some important pieces of information to help us all have a great start!

August 14 is our Back to School Bash for both St. Mary’s and Notre Dame.  This special event is open to all of our families from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at the Clarksburg City Pool located at the VA Park.  Dinner will be from 5:30-6:30 followed by free swimming and mini golf from 7:00-8:30 pm.  Please plan to join us!  A list of grade level food assignments is attached.  *** St. Mary’s will have our 21-22 Yearbook for sale at this event for $15 each.

August 19 is an all day Open House for families of 1st – 6th graders.  Students and their families may come to the building between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm to find your classroom and meet your teacher.

August 22 is the first day of school for students in grades 1-6.  Students will gather in the Auditorium in the mornings before going to classrooms.

August 23rd  is an Open House for PK 4 and Kindergarten families from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

August 24th is Open House for PK3 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am.

August 29th is our first School Picture Day!  All students are to wear their Formal Uniforms for the first picture.  In the Spring, we will have another Picture Day and students may wear regular clothes for this picture.  Also, in the Spring, we will take a Class Portrait and students wear their Formal uniforms for this group picture.

September 2 will be another Open House from 10:00-12:00 for parents to visit the classroom to see your child in action.  You may come to the school for a quiet walk through of the classroom to just see where your child sits and how he/she participates in instruction. September 2 is also an Early Dismissal Day at 12:00 for the long holiday weekend.

September 5 is Labor Day and there is no school.

School meals are provided by Notre Dame High School cafeteria.  This year, meals will be billed monthly from the high school cafeteria.  A menu is provided monthly.

The cost for meals is as follows:

All breakfast is $1.50 with a reduced cost being .40.

Lunch for PK3-3rd Grade is $2.75.  Reduced cost is .40

Lunch for 4th – 12th is $3.50.  Reduced cost is .40

Extra milk is .40.

*All families are encouraged to apply for Free/Reduced Meals using the attached form.  These forms are used to determine the amount of federal funding we receive for Title 1 services, so please complete and return it school even if you feel you may not qualify.

Students may bring packed, cold lunches.


Tuition Contracts need to be reviewed and finalized with our Financial Director, Adaire Snyder, during the first two weeks of August.  Her office is located in Notre Dame High School.  Please schedule an appointment with her directly at 304-517-9519.  All contracts must be finalized and signed one week prior to the start of school. Please note:  All fees must be paid in full at the time of contract signing.

PK fees – $400 per year per child

K-5 fees – $450 per year per child

6 fees – $525 per year per child (includes $75 athletic fee for ND middle school)


Arrival:  Students will be permitted to enter the building at 7:20.  All students must be in their classrooms by 7:45 am.  The Tardy Bell rings at 7:45 am. Drop-off vehicles drive down the back alley and teachers will be outside to help with students exiting vehicles.


Dismissal for Preschoolers leaving after the morning session is at 10:40 am.  These preschoolers may be picked up from the breezeway connector door between St. Mary’s and Notre Dame.  Dismissal for Kindergarteners through 6th Grade is at 2:25 pm.  All vehicles should park behind the school in the new lot and adults need to stand outside of your vehicle so that your child may find you.  All students will be dismissed from the back of the building and escorted by staff to the parking lot. Students riding a Harrison County School bus to Bridgeport will exit the front of the building to load the bus.  The school bus drop-off for Bridgeport is Simpson Elementary and Bridgeport Middle School. No one should pick up a student in a vehicle from the front of the building.


Every day, students need to bring their iPads fully charged, a water bottle and a snack.


Please watch the school calendar closely for holidays and instructional days.  Tech Days are days that students stay home but they are still assigned work to complete and return to school for a grade.


Mass attendance is every Friday of the week for students in Grades PK4-6.  All students are required to wear Formal Uniforms on Mass Days and special events.

Uniform Reminder:  This year is a transitional year to our new plaid.  If your child needs a new formal uniform, please order from Land’s End.  Use code 900053315.  About You Monograms in Bridgeport will do emblems and monograms for us.  It is optional.


The annual Uniform Exchange event will be open the first two weeks of August in the ND cafeteria.  You may stop in the cafeteria when you complete your contract with Mrs. Snyder and  help yourself.


Formal Uniform guidelines are:


Plaid skirt or jumper

White cotton blouse with collar– short or long sleeve

Dress shoes in navy, brown or black

Navy or white Knee socks/tights

Sweaters are to be navy blue



Navy dress pants.  Belts required if belt loops

White or light blue cotton dress shirt with collar – short or long sleeve

Plaid tie

Sweaters are to be navy blue

Navy or black socks

Dress shoes in navy, black or brown


Summer Uniforms are in effect until November 1 (except for Mass Friday and Special Events).  This policy permits students to wear shorts and tennis shoes.  All shirts are to be polo style shirts with collars in white, light blue or light gray.  Shorts are to be navy blue and knee length.  If there are belt loops on the pants, a belt must be worn.  Tennis shoes may not have light up soles and must be a full shoe.  Socks must be worn at all times and must be WHITE.  An ankle sock must be seen over the top of the shoe.


Keepers  is an after-school program for childcare from2:30 pm to 5:30 pm on days we have a full day of school beginning with the first day of school, August 22.  Keepers  is not available on Early Dismissal days.  The cost if $5 per hour and is billed monthly.  Students may participate for as many hours as you need.  Students will participate in homework assistance, physical activity, snack time, and games.  This is available to all of our students at any time.  We will be implementing a new Behavior Plan for students.  Parents will be advised of behavior problems by Mr. Sammy Lopez, Program Director, through a written notification.  Three warnings will result in a 3 day Suspension from the program.
