Parent Memo

From Ms. Lorie

St. Mary’s Grade School

Friday, March 4, 2022

Dear Families of St. Mary’s,

This week has been an exciting and spiritual week for all of us at St. Mary’s.  The fun began with a Pancake Breakfast and Mardi Gras celebration planned and provided for us by Notre Dame. Ash Wednesday found us beginning our spiritual journey with Jesus in the wilderness.  Daily, students are learning something about their personal journey with God.  W, finally, celebrated our beginning journey in Lent with praying the Rosary together as a school.  Watch our Facebook page for special pictures and video of our journey this Lent.

Notes of Interest:

Religion Lesson of the week: Lent and the Rosary

Service Project- Easter Baskets for the Homeless:  The 6th grade has created a service project titled, Easter Baskets for the Homeless.  Our Dress Down Day collected $319.25 from St. Mary’s students to purchase supplies for this project.  Thank you so much for your generosity.  During the month of March, we will collect small Easter baskets and travel size personal items to fill the baskets.  A little candy would be a nice touch too!

Hands and Hearts for Christ Mission Trip:  Thank you so much for your generous support of this mission trip.  Out school raised $285 to send with Mr. David Long and his wife to Guatemala for their mission of service to provide medical treatment to the people in need.

Easter Parties:  The Easter Party for students will be on April 13.  The preschool parties will be at 9:30 and the K-6 party time is 1:15.   Party Planners will be permitted to enter at these times.  Due to the addition of the parties to our schedule, we will not have a school wide Egg Hunt.  If you would like to plan that as part of your party, you are welcome to do so.   The hunt would need to be in the classroom.  As per policy, assigned Party Planners permitted in the classroom and no younger/older siblings are to attend.

Free/Reduced Meals and Federal Funding:  We have requested that you complete a Free/Reduced meal application for our school.  This application is used to qualify our school for federal funding.   Federal funding pays for many of our programs within the school such as the Title I teacher, professional development learning sessions for teachers, our music teacher this year, and several of our software programs such as Nearpod.  Without this federal funding, these programs would not exist.  In actuality, you may know that you do not qualify for free/reduced meals but there may be other factors in your family that would qualify us for federal monies.  Please complete this application at In order to complete this application you need a few pieces of information from us.  First, you need to know that our district name is Harrison County Catholic.   Secondly, you need to know your child’s ID number.  You can obtain this number by calling the school or emailing me or Ms. Ashley at or When completing the link, you must create an application first.  Most of us go directly to Add a Student.  You need to do the button above – Apply/Application.  Once you create the application then your child’s will automatically appear and the code we gave you will work.  Please don’t hesitate to ask for help!  I struggled with this process myself.  I will have codes with me this weekend if you need your child’s code number.

NDMS Track:  It’s that time of year….training will begin for ND Middle School Track.  Coach Nathan Nardella has scheduled the first practice for March 28 in the ND Gym at 5:30 pm.  Interested students need to bring a Sports Physical and a pair of non-street tennis shoes to wear for practice.

Open Applications Time:  Applications are open for all new students!  The application is available on our webpage at

Tuition for the 2022-2023 School Year:  In order to obtain the Catholic Rate, you must provide the form completed by your parish pastor titled, Registered, Participating and Contributing Parishioner, every year.  This form was sent home a few weeks ago with the Hope Scholarship information.   It is, also, now posted on our webpage under the Admissions button.

TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) is open: Feb 1- April 29.  Application available at

New Parent Handbook:  The new, updated version of the Parent Handbook has been posted on the school website at  Please review this document for a more detailed version of our school policies, especially the Discipline Policy with updated consequences.  A hard copy of the New Parent Handbook will be given to you at your contract signing in August.
