Parent Memo

From Ms. Lorie

St. Mary’s Grade School

Friday, October 14

Dear St. Mary’s Families:

Thank you for a record breaking Scholastic Book Fair!  The children had a great time shopping and exploring books!

This week our students will be traveling to the 4-H Recreational Center for their Outdoor Adventure Program.  On Monday, students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 will be going on the trip.   On Friday, students in grades PK3, PK4, K, 1, and 2 will be going on the trip. (We will leave following Mass.   Students going on the trip can wear the standard uniform and tennis shoes for this one time.) All students need to bring a packed lunch and drink from home.  PK3 and PK4 will return to the school at 10:30am.  The event is free and the students will ride the Notre Dame bus.

It’s hard to believe that we are halfway through October.  We hope you will join us for our annual Trunk or Treat event on October 26 from 6:30-7:45pm.  This is a private event for St. Mary’s and Notre Dame Students.  The event has some changes and upgrades this year.   Upon admittance to the parking lot, we will be collecting cans of soup and mac and cheese to donate to the Mustard Seed.  The festivities will begin with a quick Halloween movie for students on the playground at 6:30pm; giving parents time to get their trunks and areas set up.  We will also have food available to purchase for those who have been rushed in the preparation of the evening. The plan is to have pizza and chicken sandwiches available. Following the movie, we will gather the children for a blessing and let them begin their trunk or treating!

Friendly reminder …Saint Dolls are due on November 1!

As we near the end of October, please keep in mind that on November 1 the Winter Uniform goes into effect.  This entails no shorts or tennis shoes (except for PE Day – Thursday).   Every Friday, we attend Mass and all students are to wear their Formal Uniforms.  Students are to wear their fleece jackets on Mass Day, also, when it is cold.

Save the Date – December 18!!! We are going to be performing an all school Christmas Program this year at Immaculate Conception church at 3:00pm.   All students will be participating.   It is our hope that this event will bring joy to your hearts and set the tone for the reason for the season – Jesus!

Notes of Interest:

Homeroom Holiday Parties:   Party assignments have been sent home. Your child’s teacher has an extra form she can copy and send to you.

*Be aware…in order to be in the building volunteering at a party or any event, you must complete the Safe Environment Process.   This is a three step process that includes a background check, Virtus video on Awareness Training, and the review and acceptance of the Policy Relating to Sexual Abuse of Children. These three actions may be completed all online at   If you have volunteered in the past, you probably already have a Virtus account.  Please log in and check the status of your account.  All new families will have received directions on how to complete this process.  We are checking these requirements at this time.  If you are missing a piece of information, we will contact you.

Halloween:  All students will all be dismissed at 10:40 am to go home for lunch.  Students in grades K-6 will need to return at 1:00 for the parade, which begins at 1:15.  We will plan to parade out the front door towards Immaculate Conception, around the block to Main Street and back into the front entrance.

*PK3 and PK4 Parties are in the morning at 9:30.  The PK Parade will be in the parking lot in the back at 10:15 am.  There will not be any extended care for preschool students on Halloween day.

*There will not be any Keepers on Oct 31.

Field Trip:   Students will be traveling to the 4-H Recreation Center in October to participate in the Harrison County Park Boards ‘Outdoor Adventures’ Program.   PK3, PK4, K, 1 and 2 will attend on October 21.  The PK3 and PK4 students will return to school at 10:30 am.  Students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 will attend on October 17.

*All students need to bring a packed lunch and drink for the field trip.

*We will be riding the ND bus to and from the field trip.

*Students need to wear school uniforms and school fleece jackets with tennis shoes.

St. Mary’s Children’s Choir is being formed under the direction of Maria Ammons and Cecilia Landers.  All students in grades 2-6 are invited to join.   Practices will be after school.   Sign-Up forms were sent home last week.   If you did not receive one and would like your child to participate, call the office and speak with Mrs. Ammons.

SAVE The Date:  December 18 at 3:00 pm, St. Mary’s students will perform an all student Christmas Program at Immaculate Conception Church.  Every class will be participating.  All families are invited to join in our celebration!

A Message from HandS Vice President, Pam Leonard:  Thank you to everyone that made our Book Fair this week a wonderful success! We are looking for volunteers to decorate their vehicles and to hand out candy to St. Mary’s students. Participants are also encouraged to host short games/activities (such as corn hole, ring ross, guess what’s in the box, etc.), if they wish. Adults, feel free to dress up too! If you would like to participate, then please text HandS President, Natalie Gigliotti at 304.629.3379. It is a very fun evening for all!
