Parent Memo
From Ms. Lorie
St. Mary’s Grade School

Friday, September 23
Dear St. Mary’s Families:

Thank you to all parents, grandparents, and friends who volunteered with the Pumpkin Drop today. What a
beautiful day and fun activity for our students! Even though we did not have any ‘winners’, the day was worth the
break and bonding time!

Today, students in grades kindergarten through 6 th will be bringing home the Beginning of the Year MAP (Measureof Academic Performance) Family Report. This test was taken the week of August 29 so that we could have a true beginning point for each child. The results indicate where your child is beginning the current school year. Our goal is to see growth throughout the year. Your child’s line of growth should continue to move upward.

If you have
questions, please contact your child’s teacher. The next assessment will be taken during the winter months.

Looking forward to next week, we have a fun filled week planned for Homecoming Spirit Week. The theme for this
year is …Books – Homecoming, Chapter 22.

Please see the list below for the guidelines for the Dress Down Days.

Our float theme is ‘Charlotte’s Web – Some School!’ Student council members,5 th and 6 th grade students, and
Preschool 3 and 4 year olds will be permitted to ride on the float. Students riding on the float are to wear ‘farm’
attire…jeans, plaid shirts, straw hats… (Student Council students, 5 th and 6 th graders received a detailed letter about
this event.) Check your child’s folder. The float decorating will be after school on Friday, September 30, beginning
at 4:00 in the parking lot behind the school. All are invited to join the fun. Children must be accompanied by an
adult. The parade will begin at 5:30. The route is up East Pike, turn left at 4 th Street, travel down Main Street, turn
left at 3 rd Street and end at Jackson Square. Please join the fun and line the parade route as we cheer on our
schools!!!

Mass next week will be on Thursday afternoon at 1:00pm. Students are to wear their Formal Uniforms this day.
This mass will be in conjunction with Notre Dame to celebrate our Homecoming and families are invited to attend.

Morning Drop Off: Please drive down the back alley and let the staff unload your children from your vehicles. It can be dangerous to
walk across the crosswalk in the morning drop off line. For your safety and the safety of our students, it is best to drive down the alley.
Homeroom Holiday Parties: The form to sign up for parties came home this week. Please be aware that not everyone will get every
party that is desired. We will make every effort to make sure that everyone gets at least one party in which to participate. It is imperative that
this form comes back to school quickly. This is a daunting task and we need to be ready for the Halloween Party team to prepare! Also, be
aware…in order to be in the building volunteering at a party or any event, you must complete the Safe Environment Process. This is a three step
process that includes a background check, Virtus video on Awareness Training, and the review and acceptance of the Policy Relating to Sexual
Abuse of Children. These three actions may be completed all online at www.virtusonline.org. If you have volunteered in the past, you probably
already have a Virtus account. Please log in and check the status of your account. All new families will have received directions on how to
complete this process.
21-22 Yearbooks: We have Yearbooks from last year available for sale in the office. The cost is $15. You may send cash or check made
payable to St. Mary’s in an envelope and we will send a Yearbook home with your child.
Keepers: There will be NO KEEPERS on Friday, SEPT 30 due to the decorating of the float and the Homecoming Parade at 5:30.
Please send snacks with your child for Keepers time.
HandS thanks all of the SMS families that contributed to the book collection for the schools in Kentucky. Your generosity and thoughtfulness
are much appreciated. A special thank you to Kary Yates for delivering the books. Please continue to pray for those affected by severe weather
and natural disasters, especially within our state/region.
